New Blog Picture

Good Morning

Here is a photo from yesterday morning when my sweet little Downy Woodpecker stopped by for breakfast, he tweets if there is no suet -- such a cutie. I also have a Red Headed woodpecker, blue jays and a pair of Cardinals that stop by, along with nuthatches, finches and dark eyed juncos. They put on quite a show, especially in the winter.
Yesterday we got 12 inches of snow, quite a surprise, when the day started out with only flurries in the forecast! And today more "FLURRIES" - when I checked the doppler it seems that we might have more than "Flurries" -- I sure wish I was a weatherman -- the only job I know of where you can me wrong alot and still make mega bucks!! Only in America!
Since we were housebound yesterday, I cleared out over 200 magazines from my sewing room! And I am still working on that project today -- Really trying to get that room in very good order by NewYears! I am going thru each magazine, if there are 3 or more projects I might do I keep the entrie magazine, if not, I scan the patterns I want and I will recycle the other magazines at my garage sale this year and then at craft camp. A perfect winter day project.
Then last night we watched 4 Christmases -- very cute movie and I started to crochet a scarf, I found a box of yarn in my sewing room closet so I thought I would make up scarfs for the Winter Clothing Drive we have in town each December. I noticed the price tag on the yarn it was on clearance at Walmart in 2004 for 70 cents! So it will be good to use it up, help someone in need and clear out another box of stuff!
I hope you have a wonderful day!

It is Snowing!

Good Morning

We woke up to a blanket of white today! YIPEE! It sure beats the rain we got yesterday and it melted alot of the snow and it looked pretty icky for Christmas -- looks like we will get about 3 or more inches.
Christmas is over, and now we can get back to sewing and cleaning the sewing room. That is my plan for the weekend, in fact if you go to Tamaras blog http://www.tameraquilts.blogspot.com/
she is having a Wind Up Weekend. Go check it out. She wants everyone to get busy on sewing this weekend.
One project I am working on, is clearing out my magazines, I am going thru each magazine and scanning the projects I might do, and if there are several project in the magazine I am just keeping it. So far I have 70 magazines for the garage sale in April and only 10 I am keeping, now mind you this is only about 1/3 of one shelf, but I need to continue this project and whittle down all my books and magazines, my goal is to be done with this project by NYE.
I counted my UFO's on Christmas Eve -- I had 70 -- then I talked to my friend Susan last night and she reminded me of 3 more I have so I am going to try to get a few things finished before the new year.
Also -- are you doing the New Year Eve mystery quilt this year? Check out the Yahoo ground Quilt Talk and join up. I have done this the last 6 years -- I love it - I sew down here in the dinig room and DH prints the clues each hour and we snack most of the day, the mystery is over about 6 with the last clue and we are out to dinner around 7 and then come back home and welcome in the New Year. A nice day. You should try it.
Well off to get cleaning up the sewing room.

Holiday Decor and more

I promised to show a picture of the outside of our house decorated -- here it is. Luckily we got about 7 inches of snow, but along with that came wind chills -20. That has tapered off now and we are back to 20 - 30 degree weather. Not so bad after that sub zero. So here it is all ready for Christmas!

I like to get some things for Toys for Tots, but this year things are pretty tight, so I had these 4 doll bodies all done, they just needed dresses -- so yesterday I made their dresses and put on their hair, then they needed bloomers, got that done and delivered to my friend who's husband is a Toys for Tots volunteer, I guess this year - they are really in need of toys - lots of kids that have parents out of work I would suspect, the economy is really rough.

My final thought today is my thrift shop find -- she is ADORABLE! She is made from an old quilt, I would think in the 20's and she is so well made, she stands on a wood stand and they even covered the tube she is on with muslin. I just love her -- she is going to have a place of honor in our home this Christmas. I just don't know how anyone could give her up -- but I am glad she found us. I have to think of name for her, I am leading towards Caroline -- I think that is the name of the blocks on her quilt -- I need to check that out. I am going to change her ribbons to a green that matches better and give her a smile.
Oh you are thinking what did I pay for this priceless gem. Well she was marked $3.45 but Christmas was 1/2 price today -- CHA CHING $1.72 -- I am thrilled beyond words,

Hope you are having a wonderful day!

Are your decorations up yet??

Hi there!

I thought I would take you on a little tour of the decorations, here is some for today and then tomorrow I will take some more pictures, we are getting 7 inches of snow today so I will take some outdoor shots for you...just in case you miss snow.
This is the Cubs Village, it reminds me baseball is only 2 1/2 months til spring training.

This is my Northeastern Fishing Village, I just love this village, it reminds me of simplier time. Wich we all need. It seems so serene and peaceful. Perfect for this time of year.

Here is the tree in the living room, with ornaments that are very old and some are newer, it is really eclectic and I love it! I love putting all the ornaments on and remember who gave them to me, or what the ornament reminded me of when I bought it. Sometimes fun and sometimes a little sad, but it is good to have memories of those we miss especially at Christmas.
Here is the tree in our entry way...you guessed it a CUBS tree! My friend gave this to me a few years ago and I just love it. I think about all the optimistic days we have ahead, and that this next year really could be our year --

I will post photos from outside and the creation station tree tomorrow
Have a great day!

Are you decorated Yet?

Good Morning

Last weekend we did the decorating thing. We have 4 trees up, don't get excited, we have 1 7 footer, with just all the ornaments you can imagine, a 3 Ft with all Cubs stuff and a cubs tree skirt, a 3ft with all quilting ornaments and that is in the creation station, and a 4 foot tree in the bedroom with ornaments that are "extra" from the big tree. Also got all the outside decroated and yesterday I had a terrific find, I was wanting some evergreen pieces for my flower boxes on the front porch, as I going to the animal shelter to deliver some pet beds, there on the side of the road were pieces from a tree -- Just what I was looking for. I pulled over and loaded them into the truck! YIPPPEE!! When I got home I cut them and they are perfect in the flower boxes, today I will add red bows and everything will be done!!
This is the last day of the Craft Walk in my town, then I will put everything on Etsy tonight.
Now on to clean the creation station and the bedrooms, we need to go thru some stuff, doesn't everyone! I cleaned out the hall closet yesterday - it was coat, hat and mitten drive yesterday - so I washed 4 coats and 4 hats and 4 scarfs all in great condition and took them to the collection spot yesterday afternoon! And the best part is my closet is clean and I feel good about it. Also got a box of stuff for my garage sale in the spring.
Well off to get busy
Have a great day
